DAREDEVIL SEASON 2 EPISODE 1 REACTION to “Dogs to a Gunfight”
CHECK OUT EPISODE 1 RECAP
DAREDEVIL SEASON 2 EPISODE 1 REACTION to “Dogs to a Gunfight”
The second I saw this episode’s title I assumed a reference to the Dogs of Hell gang we met in episode 1. But there is a double meaning in the wounded dog frank Castle saved form his run in with Mr. Nesbitt.
While episode 1 “BANG” was all about action and comedy, setting tone for season 2,”Dogs to a Gunfight” is packed with great story, digging into the psyshe of many of our main characters.
Foggy finds Matt on the roof top, barely surviving his first encounter with Frank Castle. We are brought right back to Foggy’s season 1 struggle, knowing his friend appears to have a death wish. His fear turns to anger. How many times can a guy find his friend near death and hold it together?
Foggy and Karen work to get Grotto a deal in Witness Protection while digging into the new player in town.
Sgt. Brett Mahoney tells Karen and Foggy very little – Witnesses are like mushroom. Feed them shit and keep them in the dark. GREAT LINE! He also makes a reference to Charles Bronson’s “Death Wish”.
Meanwhile Matt learns getting shot in the head has side effect. His super hearing goes from out of whack to deaf, making Matt truly blind for the first time in years. Scary! Dramatic when Matt can’t even hear his own screams for help.
Karen loves how Foggy takes on the DA. Not letting himself be strong armed, Foggy keeps their team in the game.
True Superhero geeks may recognize Michelle Hurd from 1997 Justice League Pilot (WATCH HERE) Michelle Hurd is back as Samantha Reyes, after playing the role in Jessica Jones last fall (AKA Smile).
DA’s right hand, Blake Tower (Stephen Rider), is known as a Daredevil ally form the comics. We see Blake smiling when his boss is upstaged and later when Karen gives Grotto the finger instead of a kiss.
In his search for Grotto, Frank Castle goes to a Pawn Shop for some illegal police communications. Pawn Shop dealer makes out like a bandit, until he tries to up sell with child porn. Not a lot of NYC Pawn shops selling, Skis I imagine. However I did get hungry seeing Potbelly Deli across the street.
Interesting scene inserted here gives us some insight into Karen Paige.
“what if I deserve it”
“drawing this stuff my way.”
Comic book fans know of Karen’s past. We learned in Season 1 she has some yet-to-be-revealed colorful history.

DAREDEVIL SEASON 2 Karen focusing on dark underbelly, not silver lining of surviving these reoccurring scary moments.
Karen seems to prefer Matt’s comforting words over Foggy. But she finds Matt under the weather and calls him on his BS excuses.
Still keeping each other safe, Melvin fixes up Matt’s damaged mask, revealing this was a warning shot.
Matt tracks the Dog’s blood to Franks hide out, finding the police scanner, guns and bombs.
Meanwhile, Frank is taking out some other dogs across the neighborhood.
Before going to be bait for The Punisher – under the assumption he is to get Brass on drug charges – Karen and Grotto find true love.
Turns out, Punisher has the drop on the cops. But Daredevil has the drop on Punisher. And we have another epic roof top battle, now while dodging cop snipers. But when Matt and frank fall through to the ground floor, Matt’s hearing issues return. When Foggy and the cops arrive both vigilantes are gone.

The second season of the American web television series Daredevil follows Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer who fights crime by night, as he crosses paths with the deadly Frank Castle and his old girlfriend Elektra Natchios. The series is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing continuity with the films and other television series of the franchise. The season is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios and Goddard Textiles, with Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez serving as showrunners, and series creator Drew Goddard acting as consultant.
Charlie Cox stars as Murdock, while Jon Bernthal and Élodie Yung are introduced as Castle and Natchios. Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Rosario Dawson also return from the first season, with Stephen Rider also joining them. The season was ordered in April 2015 after the successful release of the first, with Petrie and Ramirez replacing the season one showrunner Steven S. DeKnight. Production on the season began in July 2015 and continued through December, with the season focusing on ‘what makes a hero’ by comparing Murdock to Castle and Natchios, and showing how they affect his life.
The first two episodes of the season premiered in Paris on March 7, 2016, with the full season of 13 episodes released on Netflix on March 18. Critics praised the action of the season and the performances, particularly Bernthal’s. However, some of the storyline elements and execution received criticism as well as no character having the same presence that Vondie Curtis-Hall’s Ben Urich or Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk did in the first season.
As Murdock recovers from an attack, Foggy and Karen fight to protect their new client from both the law and the Kitchen’s newest vigilante.
