Defenders NETFLIX MARVEL  – Daredevil Jessica Jones Luke Cage Iron Fist

It has been a while since I have posted anything. I’ve been too busy watching stuff. It seems like every 2 hours someone releases a TV show to binge or Movie to watch. Marvel, DC, Star Wars and Star Trek are all keeping my free time on lock down…

But to be clear nothing has held my attention or loved as much as NETFLIX’s MARVEL Defenders UNIVERSE. And while many jumped ship on Iron Fist I loved it as it was different. While less action packed then I expected, it was the EMPIRE STRIKES BACK of the universe, setting up back story for the soon to come Defenders.

I am just now binge-ing Legion Season 1 and looking forward to THE GIFTED, another X-men Universe TV series.

And all the while I have been up to date with DC offerings on CW. While they cannot hold a candle to Marvel writing etc, they are my guilty pleasure. I was a Superman freak first and foremost as a kid and I think the cheesy worlds of Supergirl – and to a lesser extent, Flash – provide that hope, no matter how distant from reality.

ESCAPISM, my friends comes in many shades. I enjoy all of them.

The Punisher arc from Daredevil Season 2 has to be the best 4 hours of comic book based TV or FILM ever. From the long seemingly one-shot staircase decent, to the roof top debate to the graveyard monologue this mini series within a mini series just stands out for actions, writing and performance (and directing, design etc etc etc)

Conversely the second half Electra arc may be my least fave of all 5 seasons from Netflix so far. However, i still enjoyed.

Jessica Jones was fun as a directional shift from DD1 and no one can find flaws with David Tennant’s Purple Man.

Luke Cage was special. I work in Harlem schools as a teaching artist – using Improv to teach various life skills to both students and teaches. In that time I have gotten wind of various Harlem local politics regarding schools and social programs. So seeing corrupt politicians and gangsters working side by side was intriguing – i could not help wonder how real this seemed despite all the comic book tropes. CAN YOU DIG IT?

Luke Cage really held my attention with its Sound Track. Funk and Soul made even the slowest times interesting to watch and listen.

Iron Fist kept us wanting more. More action, more forward movement. It felt like we were in a circle of which Meechum would be the bad guy in this episode. We all love Marvel over DC because of the grey matter between good & evil. Pre Zack DC has clear cut heroes and villains. But Iron Fist played this grey area of whose the real hero and villain to a fault. I still loved it but it clearly is the weakest offering thus far.

Marvel’s The Defenders
, or simply The Defenders, is an upcoming American web television miniseries developed for Netflix by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise and is the culmination of a series of interconnected shows from Marvel and Netflix. The miniseries is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios, with Ramirez serving as showrunner.

The limited series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand / Iron Fist, all reprising their roles from their individual series. Élodie Yung also stars as Elektra Natchios, reprising the role from Marvel’s Daredevil. Development of the miniseries began in late 2013, with Cox the first actor cast in May 2014, and Jones the final of the title four cast in February 2016. Petrie and Ramirez joined as showrunners in April, after serving in the same role on the second season of Daredevil. However, Petrie left as showrunner at the start of filming in New York City in October 2016; filming concluded in March 2017.

The Defenders will consist of eight episodes, and is scheduled to be released August 18, 2017.
