HOLY SH.. DAREDEVIL SEASON 2 EP 3 “New York’s Finest”

HOLY SH!T! Matt wakes up chained to a chimney

HOLY SH.. DAREDEVIL SEASON 2 EP 3 “New York’s Finest”

That’s right I am renaming this episode “HOLY SH!T!”

There are two main elements to this episode.

  1. The tribute to ER with single camera shots as Foggy searches for Claire (Rosario Dawson) and Matt’s decent of the stairwell.
  2. The verbal chess match between Matt and Frank and how best to serve Justice to Hell’s Kitchen.

Samantha Reyes is in full cover own ass mode, threatening to put blame for the botched operation to capture The Punisher on Nelson and Murdock. Blake Tower with a look shows sympathy for Karen and Foggy.

Matt tries to figure our Frank. Franks is mostly silent as he drinks his thermos of coffee.

Foggy seeks out Claire hoping to find Matt. The emergency room is packed with Punisher’s would be victims. There is a great single camera shot following Foggy through the hospital halls that is totally a shout out to ER. It is total chaos as the staff is completely overwhelmed by the uptake in thug admissions. Expecting George Clooney to jump out any second.

Hi Claire

Karen gets a call from Grotto, who is done with getting help from lawyers.

Meanwhile Matt and Frank’s conversation is interrupted by the building’s super, Jerry. Frank let’s Jerry go, sharing a military kinship, but knocks out Matt when he is tired of the talk.

Keep quiet or the old man gets it!

Sensing Blake Tower is not a fan of his boss, Karen seeks out the Assistant District Attorney for help. While acting indignant to her cause, Blake slips her a few files.

Foggy continues to court Claire’s support by talking down an ER thug fight. Turns out words are mightier than a screw driver and face tattoos.

Matt wakes up to find Frank has captured Grotto. Matt’s hand is duck taped to a gun. Frank poses the ultimate choice. Kill me or I kill him, either way the blood is on Matt’s hands. Franks states what Matt basically said in Season 1, his biggest fear is being one mistake away from becoming The Punisher and killing a perp. Frank says his way they stay down, not getting out in a month, week, day… Turk recently said “I’ll be out in a month” to which Matt replied he will see him then.

It’s me or him!

Someone needs better head shots

Matt gets free but not in time to save Grotto. As Matt tries to free Grotto, we see Frank’s real target from that particular roof top. Frank takes aim at the Dog’s of Hell hang out.

Think it’s bad when you knock over a biker’s ride.?Trying blowing it up.

BATCH to BATCH, PENNY AND DIME: Penny and Dime is the name of the next episode. I missed this on my first watch but caught my ear second time around while writing this article. I thought Frank said “Bitch to bitch” while putting Jimmy “The Bear” in his sights. But this is in fact a reference to … well let’s wait till we see next episode to reveal.\

Before Frank can take out the Dogs of Hell in entirety from the sniper position, Matt takes him out.

What follows, as Matt tries to get Frank out of the building, is one of the most intense sequences I have seen in years. In yet another single extended shot, Matt takes on the entire gang. After putting Frank in the freight lift, he fights his way to the ground floor.

Ground Floor…

Through this fight, Matt equally plays into both Foggy and Frank’s view of Daredevil’s future. He practically dies and almost loses control. I would not be surprised if one or two of those Dogs died. That was intense.

When it was all done, Frank had escaped out the back / outside door of the elevator.

Frank Castle Escapes

Where did he go?

Final shot of the episode, we see a large enveloped labeled “F. Castle.” Karen reveals the signature Punisher Skull to be Frank’s with a bullet hole.

The second season of the American web television series Daredevil follows Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer who fights crime by night, as he crosses paths with the deadly Frank Castle and his old girlfriend Elektra Natchios. The series is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing continuity with the films and other television series of the franchise. The season is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios and Goddard Textiles, with Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez serving as showrunners, and series creator Drew Goddard acting as consultant.

Charlie Cox stars as Murdock, while Jon Bernthal and Élodie Yung are introduced as Castle and Natchios. Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Rosario Dawson also return from the first season, with Stephen Rider also joining them. The season was ordered in April 2015 after the successful release of the first, with Petrie and Ramirez replacing the season one showrunner Steven S. DeKnight. Production on the season began in July 2015 and continued through December, with the season focusing on ‘what makes a hero’ by comparing Murdock to Castle and Natchios, and showing how they affect his life.

The first two episodes of the season premiered in Paris on March 7, 2016, with the full season of 13 episodes released on Netflix on March 18. Critics praised the action of the season and the performances, particularly Bernthal’s. However, some of the storyline elements and execution received criticism as well as no character having the same presence that Vondie Curtis-Hall’s Ben Urich or Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk did in the first season.
